ENIGMA PROJECT is a project that analyses from different perspectives and re-construct a performance work ENIGMA, which premiered in 2012, Kyoto. An etymology of enigma is a Greece word “ainigma” that means an obscure saying, and the word “enigma” was used for the encryption device deployed by Nazi Germany during the WWII. Taking the theme of “sleep”, Yoko Koike, a choreographer and dancer, and Toru Yamanaka, a music composer, approached elusive codes that appear in transitional and ambiguous time in 2012. Afterwards, it has changed as performed in different times and places. The latest performance was played as part of the dance festival DANZINC (Singapore) on 20 Nov 2020. At this time, the work was reconstructed under the theme of “border” with the new members who enabled it accessible online in response to COVID-19 situation. 
 
“Hole” is the theme for the upcoming performance. A hole connects different spaces even though it is not a substantial being. In a performance, it directly and physically affects a dancer as light and stage setting. How can we transmit through video the body responding to the hole? We will explore this question and attempt a video form of the performance work. The outcome will be shown through live streaming that includes participatory interactive programme and edited video broadcasting on demand after the play.
